If you’re anything like us, you’ll agree that riding your bike is one of the best ways to spend your time. Whether it’s an epic 100-miler on your favourite roads, a few hours bashing the trails with your buddies or even just a quick nip around the block, bike time is good time. But every now and then, things can go wrong. Mechanicals, bad weather, getting lost – all these are annoying but not serious. A crash on the other hand can be, but at Specialized we’ve got you covered should the worst happen.

An extra layer of protection
All Specialized helmets are now available with MIPS, giving you an extra layer protection. MIPS means ‘Multi-directional Impact Protection System’ – yep, it’s a bit of a mouthful, so we’ll stick with MIPS if that’s OK with you. It sits inside the helmet and is designed to reduce the rotational forces that can result from certain impacts, essentially protecting your brain from some of the effects of a crash. This, we are sure you’ll agree, is a good thing.
You won't feel any difference when wearing a MIPS-equipped helmet; it’s going to fit and be as comfortable as you need it to be. The MIPS system used in Specialized helmets is designed to decrease weight, increase ventilation and improve comfort.
Peace of mind before, during and after your ride
Specialized helmets now go even further than protecting you during your ride. Thanks to our innovative ANGi sensor, a Specialized helmet now adds protection before and after it too.
ANGi stands for ‘Angular and G-Force Indicator’ – yep, another mouthful. ANGi is a patented helmet-mounted sensor that features a built-in accelerometer and gyroscope, an innovative device that measures the forces transmitted to your helmet. ANGi works in unison with an app on your phone, starting a countdown if it detects possible impact that might have occurred during a put-down. If you’re fine, you simply cancel the countdown, but if you don’t respond, the app transmits a text alert with your most recently uploaded GPS coordinates to your emergency contacts.
That’s not all ANGi does. It also lets your emergency contacts know you’re heading out for a ride and, if you choose, to follow your ride in real time. For those days when you just feel the need to extend the commute by a few miles, it’s another layer of security for you and your loved ones.
What about if you’re out in the sticks, away from mobile coverage, and you have a spill? ANGi has a plan for that too. If you think you might ride out of range, just set your estimated ride time before you head out – if you haven’t completed your ride within that time frame, ANGi will send a notification to your contacts with your last uploaded location.
Hit the trails as hard as you dare
Of course, ANGi and MIPS are not just applicable for road use. In fact, ANGi could prove even more valuable if you have a tumble way out in the woods where you’re less likely to encounter other riders or passing traffic. Knowing that you’re safe, even if something happens that means you can’t contact them, provides peace of mind for those at home while you’re out getting your fix.
