Specialized Body Geometry® shoes and footbeds are built to make the marriage
between body and bike more productive, more comfortable and less painful.
We wouldn't have spent countless hours developing our Body Geometry technology with
Dr. Andy Pruitt from the Boulder Centre for Sports Medicine if we didn't realize the
benefits behind a perfect fitting shoe. After all, your feet are your power transfer.
Every watt you put into those pedals should move you forward, not waste your energy.
All our BG shoes work to improve pedalling efficiency and prevent injury in three ways.
Varus Wedge >
The Problem: Since the foot is naturally canted for walking
and running (with the big toe higher than the little), that same angulation
on a bike can cause rotational movement of the knee/shin/foot and
cause the foot to collapse, which not only degrades efficiency, but
creates knee pressure and strain.
The Solution: We engineer a Varus Wedge into the outsole of our
BG shoes, giving the foot a 1.5mm angle to compensate for its natural
tilt. This creates better alignment of the knee over the foot,
boosting efficiency and comfort.
Longitudinal Arch >
The Problem: Similar to its angulation, the foot's
arch is great for absorbing shock when walking or running, thanks
to its natural flex. But unless the arch is supported while on a bike,
it can hinder pedalling efficiency and rob power on the down stroke.
The Solution: The footbeds and outsoles of our BG shoes are
constructed with Longitudinal Arch support, truly making every pedal
stroke count in your favour.
Metatarsal Button >
Medically tested, scientifically proven
BG® saddle designs take the pressure off your important parts,
so the terms "saddle" and "sore" can remain exclusive.
We follow the doctor's orders when it comes to saddle design because
hours on a bike will quickly prove that an ill fitting or poorly designed
saddle is, well, pure hell. Ergonomic designer and medical doctor Roger
Minkow was the first person to present solutions for saddle
pressure/dysfunction, and he helped us develop the specific shapes,
contours and cut-outs you’ll find in all of our Body Geometry saddles.
Though years in the saddle may have given you an opinion or two about
what feels best, we always suggest getting fit to your bike. Your local
Specialized dealer can either guide you through a comprehensive BG FIT
session, or if saddles are your only concern, they can measure your actual
sit bone width to find the perfect fitting saddle (all models are
available in multiple sizes) for your body.
Men's saddle design >
Men's saddle DESIGN You've heard the rumours, and sadly
they're a reality. Studies prove that the pressure conventional saddles
put on the pudendal nerves and arteries reduces penile blood flow within
just a few minutes. But Body Geometry designs reduce this.
Women's saddle design >
Women's Saddle Design significantly reduces soft tissue pressure
with central cut-away and bevelled foam contours.
Different widths for different riders >
Different Widths for Different Riders
No two pairs of sit bones are the same. Skinnier saddles don't necessarily work
best for smaller riders, wider saddles for larger riders, and so on. Even the
difference in sit bone width when riding in an upright or aero position is significant.
There's simply no cardinal rule for finding the best sized saddle for your body—meaning
the one that will keep you riding longer and more comfortably—without measuring
the distance between your sit bones (ischial tuberosities) and its relation to
your positioning. If you want an accurate saddle fit, your local Specialized
dealer can help.
ALONG WITH OUR FOCUS ON HIGH QUALITY FABRICS and
cycling-specific construction methods, we've put top priority on
enhancing your comfort in the saddle. So we've expanded the form
and function of the most integral part of your seat (yes, the chamois!)
to better serve every type of rider and riding experience.
With the help of our Body Geometry master Dr. Roger Minkow, we now
offer two BG pro-level pads of varying thickness and function.
SL CHAMOIS >
Lower level of padding for freedom of movement.
Experience: Ideal for your shorter, more intense rides or
when you're looking for a more supple feel on the bike.
Benefit: Focused cushioning, lighter weight, flexibility,
more freedom of motion in the saddle.
Construction/Material: Dual density moulded foam; focused
pattern. Lighter fabric, mesh panels and minimal construction on short.
RBX CHAMOIS >
Highest level of padding for pressure-free performance
Experience: You're either heading out for a long, endurance
ride or you want a completely cushioned feel on the bike.
Benefit: Customised cushioning in all the right spots, little
to no friction/pressure, ultimate endurance.
Construction/Material: Triple density; high density foam in
sit bone area, mid density foam in perineals, lower density
throughout. Heavier construction and denser fabric on
shorts for longevity.
BG GLOVES PLACE A SOFT GEL PAD between the heel of your palm
and the bar, spreading compressive force from the bike and reducing
pressure on the ulnar nerve.
FOR EVEN MORE ERGO-HANDLING, you can combine BG gloves with
BG Bar Phat coverings or BG grips. Our BG Bar Phat pad systems give riders
a hidden sense of relief, placing gel and foam pads directly under the tape
on the tops and drops. Compared to traditional cork tape, the BG Bar Phat
pads registered 50% less hand pressure in a test by the German Sports University.
BG BAR PHAT PAD SYSTEMS dampen vibration and reduce pressure on hands.
