While the S-Works Tarmac might be the optimal bike for winning Grand Tours, we know the chances are you're not going to be launching it up Alpe d'Huez come July. Even so, if you need a bike that can set you up to blow the competition away on the weekly shakedown ride or at your local crit race, the Tarmac Expert always has its nose in front.

To bring the frame weight down to 950 grams, we revolutionised the construction and layup of the new FACT 10r carbon with advanced aerospace composite optimisation software, producing the most advanced material and schedule we've ever put together. This innovative means of construction helped us lop 200 grams off the frame weight that's nearly 20% making the Tarmac Expert ideal to help you hit your next hill climb PB.

We've improved our Rider-First Engineered technology so we can give you a new Tarmac that's both compliant and stiff exactly where you need it to be. Drawing on hundreds of Retl data points, as well as input from our professional riders, we've updated the geometry of the Tarmac. That means you get the ideal combination of a front end that's incredibly responsive plus a short wheelbase the two together makes for instantaneous response and optimal power transfer.

We haven't neglected the quality of the ride though, as it's no good a bike being stiff if it also leaves you unable to comfortably step off at the end of a ride. We've designed a seat post that includes compliance in the top 120mm. This allows a little bit of movement, without affecting the effectiveness of the seat post clamp. We've also dropped the seat stays and modified the shape of the seat tube. Improved tyre clearance means you can go all the way up to 30mm tyres, which translates to a Roval SLX 24 rim shod with 28mm Turbo Cotton tyres. This means you can run your tyres at lower pressures for reduced rolling resistance, increased traction and improved ride comfort.

All these characteristics combined mean this iteration of the Tarmac delivers an exhilarating and deadly-quick ride, while still taking some of the harshness and buzz out of the road. You can thank us after your next long ride.

Our WorldTour riders on both Bora-Hansgrohe and Team Quick-Step Floors never stop demanding aero improvements, and we're only too happy to pass the innovations we came up with for them down to you too. The name of the game is seeing what aero adjustments we can make to the frame, without hampering the bike's essential Tarmac-ness.

Through six months of development, we narrowed it down to three parts of the bike designing a new fork shape, a D-shaped seat post and seat tube, and lower seat stays with aero tubes. All this means we can bag you 45 seconds over 40 km compared to other same-category lightweight bikes something we're sure you'll notice when you're putting in the big hits at the front of the peloton.

The new Tarmac will be ready to race as soon as you get it out of the box, with lightweight Roval Rapide CL50 rims on DT Swiss hubs, a precise Shimano Ultegra 8000 groupset, a sublime Toup Expert Gel saddle and our quickest S-Works Turbo 26mm tyres.
