It's easy to put a foot down which should prevent too many spills, but it'll introduce them to the basics so they're better prepared to step up to a big-kid's bike.

Outside of gravity, foot motion is actually how the bike moves. The Hotwalk will provide the feeling of riding without many of the risks associated with pedal bikes.
