Specialized bikes for kids

At Specialized we love to see more kids on bikes – we see it as an important stage of childhood. We have a large range of bikes from strollers to trail shredders and everything in between. Make 2020 the year you give the life changing experience of cycling to a young child.

To help you decide which bike is the right for your little one we’ve listed our bikes here starting with the lowest priced options.

£100 - £199

We start with our balance bike model, the Hotwalk. A simple bike, but an incredibly cool one. Our Hotwalk has no complications like gears, brakes or pedals so it’s all about improving balance and core strength before your little one graduates on to a larger bike. Children who start out on balance bikes usually fly through the tricky stabiliser stage and will be upright and stable on a ‘real’ bike in no time.

At the beginning a toddler will often stand and walk pushing the Hotwalk, but before long they will sit down on the saddle and instinctively push themselves along with their feet. This develops a toddler’s core balance skills and means they have done most of the early groundwork before they graduate to a larger bike.

The Hotwalk has an A1 Premium Aluminium frame and robust Airless Rhythm Lite Sport tyres to take on anything that’s thrown in its way. Coming in plenty of colours there is a Hotwalk for every child.

Also under £200 is the Riprock Coaster 12. With a single gear, pedals, a front brake and stabilisers, this is the perfect first ‘proper’ bike for a child. Like the Hotwalk, the robust aluminium frame is kid-proof and can take a pounding. The 12” wheels make it perfect for 3 to 5-year olds.

£200 - £299

The Riprock Coaster 16 is the same bike as its smaller sibling but with a 16” wheel suitable for 5 to 6-year olds. Kitted out with Rhythm Lite tyres capable on all terrains you’ll soon be reaching for the tools to take the stabilisers off. One gear and a steel coaster front brake make it the perfect bike to learn handling skills and braking. With a handle on the saddle for those emergency grabs, it puts you back in control if skills take a little longer to learn.

£300 - £399

Another jump up in wheel size brings the arrival of our Hotrock and Riprock bikes, designed to take on all that your child might throw at them. The Hotrock’s SR Suntour suspension fork with 50mm of travel smooths out rough terrain and the easy-to-use 7-speed Shimano Tourney gears teach your child the mechanics of shifting. The larger 24” wheel version is fitted with 8-speed gears and can be used by a youngster on their first big bike ride with the family. They’ll be quicker than you before you know it.

The slightly more trail ready Riprock 20 is perfect for 6 to 9-year olds and will make them fall in love with trail riding. The SR Suntour XCT fork has an impressive 60mm of travel, ready to absorb the big bumps.

£400 - £499

The Riprock 24 is built with compliant geometry which means that your child can grow with the bike. The 24” wheel is perfect for 9 to 12-year olds and is built to help your child harness their adventurous spirit.

Fitted with Tektro disc brakes, Shimano Revoshift shifters and a fork with 100mm of travel, the Riprock 24 is all about performance. Essentially a scaled down trail bike, you sometimes have to pinch yourself to remind yourself that it’s a kid’s bike. This bike absorbs bumps to provide comfort and traction when they’re out giving it beans. They’ll be shredding in no time.

Make sure to come in to one of our stores to see the range for yourself and get your child fitted on the correct bike. There is a Specialized bike for every child, and we have plenty of clothing and helmets too.
