Independent cycling apparel brand, Romance, have teamed up with world-famous Dutch artist Parra to produce a one-off, fully customised Specialized S-Works Roubaix bicycle to be sold at auction, with all proceeds going to World Bicycle Relief.
Following the sell-out success of the limited-edition drop of Romance X Parra cycling jerseys and caps, the collaboration has gone a step further, curating a unique custom bike painted in Parra’s inimitable style. The bike auction starts 06.08.2019 and will end on 16.08.2019 – with all proceeds going to World Bicycle Relief, who help communities in rural developing countries to access education, healthcare and work through the power of bicycles.
PARRA
Dutch artist Piet Parra is known for his unique post-pop style which fuses saturated colour blocks, surreal hand-drawn characters and typography. He’s had gallery exhibitions around the globe, runs his own streetwear label – ByParra – and has collaborated with the biggest brands on the planet. His enigmatic and instantly recognisable style defies easy categorisation.
WORLD BICYCLE RELIEF
The money raised from the bike auction will directly fund World Bicycle Relief projects in countries such as Malawi, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Zambia. The charity harnesses the power of bicycles to enable students (70% of whom are girls) to get to school more easily and safely, health workers to visit more patients and farmers to deliver heavy produce to market before it spoils. Donations to WBR mean the charity can provide specially designed rugged Buffalo Bikes to break down the barrier of distance for individuals in rural areas of developing countries.
Along with the unique frame artwork from Romance X Parra, the bike is finished with a SRAM RED eTap AXS groupset, Zipp 404 NSW disc-brake wheelset and a Specialized SWorks cockpit.
ROMANCE
Romance are an independent cycling apparel brand based in London. Their aim is to blur the boundaries between art, design and cycling. Each season, alongside their full collection, Romance launch Romance X: a unique artist collab project. Romance collaborate with an artist to create a limited edition cycling kit, with all profits going to their charity partner, World Bicycle Relief. Romance X Parra is their fourth artist collaboration, having previously worked with Camile Walala, Kate Moross and Felipe Pantone.
