The new Stumpjumper Comp Carbon 27.5 makes no compromises in performance compared to the top-end S-Works model maintaining the same responsive feel with an identical 11m carbon chassis and rear-end just without some of the frilly extras.

To ensure a telepathic feel between rider and machine, we had to prioritise work on re-jigging the bike's materials, shapes and layout all in an effort to maximise stiffness. The pinnacle of trail bikes is one that moves with you, correcting any imbalance between brain, feet and hands.

To test for stiffness and identify the largest areas for improvement, we devised a unique mountain-specific fitness test where Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was then used to look at the layout in-depth. The results swiftly put us on the way to a manufacturing epiphany tests revealing that the Large and X-Large frames were lacking in front-end stiffness compared to the small and medium sizes. These results lead us to the creation of a frame design that was 20% more efficient than before, while also achieving the accolade of one of the lightest trail frames in the modern market.

Adding to the stiffness of the frame, a new and improved sidearm design keeps the three connection points from front-end and rear-end fused together, minimising flexing in the frame while rear suspension is active. The innovative design also shaves a sizeable 100 grams off the rear-end of the frame.

A custom Rx Trail Tune on both the fork and rear shock maintain the vein of quality suspension. Responding to frame, wheel and size of the rider, the Rx Tune offers a broad spectrum to accommodate a wide range of rider preferences. Bearing in mind wheel size changes, we even developed a specific Rx Tune for each platform ensuring perfect suspension every time.

Versatility was the aim of the game with this bike standard metric shocks allowing for a bunch of aftermarket upgrades, threaded bottom brackets returning by popular demand and extra breathing space for a thick, 3.0 tyre.

A lighter and sleeker SWAT box, boasting more volume than ever before, and a geometry-shifting Flip Chip, further increase the customisation possibilities of your Stumpy. If your riding style would benefit from slackening the head tube by half-a-degree and the bottom bracket dropping 6mm, just flick from High to Low and experience the magic.

Look deeper into the new Stumpy build and the smaller features will soon start to show themselves things like the new ribbed chain stay guard, silencing chain slap on the toughest of surfaces. You'll be delighted to hear that we've achieved perfection where cable routing is concerned on our carbon models; with just a push of the cable it'll pop out the other side, simple. Pokey spokes, hidden magnet stashes and lazy loops are now a thing of the past.
