The all new Stumpjumper Expert 27.5 is all about chasing the perfect experience; one that feels less like a ride and more like an adventure. Its rule-bending new frame is stiff, agile and perfectly connected with the ground beneath your wheels. This bike really is a game changer.

The goal was simple: build the ultimate trail bike. The new Stumpjumper takes everything you've ever loved that is associated with that iconic name and takes it to the next level. In fact, the new Stumpy seems to have acquired the power of telepathy, becoming an extension of the body and communicating trail feedback through the frame direct to the rider. How have we done this It turns out it all comes down to stiffness, and with that in mind, we've finely tuned the materials, shapes and layout of the frame.

To optimise frame stiffness, the bike was put through its paces in the real world using our own mountain-specific test, focussing on downhill performance over technical trails. We then used Finite Element Analysis to examine the frame layout and identify where improvements could be made. This process yielded some pretty interesting discoveries: the Small and Medium frames were bang on, whereas the Large and X-Large frames needed a bit more attention at the front. After all the test feedback was incorporated into the design, we found that the Stumpy frame was a whole 20% more efficient. And as if that wasn't enough, it has also proved to be one of the lightest trail frames on the market. Mission accomplished.

Keeping in mind our primary goal of optimal stiffness, the frame got a major overhaul. The new Sidearm design connects the front and rear end in three places, improving stiffness and minimising frame flex, even when the rear suspension comes into play. This new design also allowed us to trim 100 grams from the rear end.

Our in-house suspension team worked with the frame engineers to make the perfect setup with a custom Rx Trail Tune on the fork and rear shock. Suspension varies depending on the size of the frame, wheel and rider, and it's the Rx Trail Tune's job to put each and every bike bang in the middle of the adjustment spectrum, giving each and every rider the biggest possible range for fine tuning. To accommodate any and all wheel size platforms we have developed a specific Rx Tune so you'll get the perfect suspension however you set up your bike.

Now that we've got the perfectly stiff frame, we wanted to make the bike versatile and easy to live with. Gone are the days of proprietary nonsense which can't be swapped out. We've brought back the threaded bottom bracket, provided clearance for tyres up to 3.0, and you're free to swap the shock for whichever standard aftermarket alternative you might like. Customisation is further encouraged through the Flip Chip which lets you switch between High and Low settings, dropping the bottom bracket by 6mm and slackening the head tube angle by half-a-degree. This essentially allows you to adjust the feel of your ride according to the terrain or your preferences.

If you liked the old SWAT storage, you're going to love this new one. The new box has been streamlined, making it lighter, more discreet, and by some form of witchcraft, it also happens to have move volume. It's all in the details with the new Stumpy, which gains a unique ridged chain stay protector to make chain slap a thing of the past. Last but not least, the carbon models all have internal cable routing which would ordinarily prompt low groans from customers and mechanics alike. However, the new Stumpy features tubing throughout the frame so all you have to do is give the cable a bit of a push and it'll pop out the other end. Say goodbye to lazy loops, hidden magnets and consolatory shoulders to cry on.

This new Stumpjumper Expert gets a brilliant build to complement its ground-breaking frame. A SRAM GX1 Eagle drivetrain takes care of gearing, superb braking is provided by SRAM Guide R discs, and Rockshox looks after suspension at the front and back with 150mm of travel at both ends. Finally, a pair of Roval Traverse Carbon 27.5 wheels keep you rolling over whatever the trail has to offer.

  • The Stumpjumper's asymmetrical, FACT 11m carbon fiber construction is lightweight, stiff, and ready to take on the trail. It's built off our 27.5 Trail Geometry, so it's just the right amount of both capable and comfortable. And with SWATâ„¢ integration in the down tube, a threaded BB, easy cable routing, and an all new chain silencer, it's ready for anything the trail, or you, throw at it.
  • With three different compression adjustments—open/pedal/lock—incredible damping performance, and our Rx Trail Tune, the RockShox Deluxe RT3 perfectly complements the Stumpjumper.
  • RockShox's Pike is known for its trail performance, and the RC found here has stiff stanchions, a Charger damper, and plenty of sensitivity.

Please note that this bike does not come with pedals.
