S-Works Stumpjumper 29 Frameset

A pair of 29-inch wheels only add to the rowdiness giving you the ability to crest and descend any climb with ease.

When designing the new Stumpjumper, we focussed on building a machine with a telepathic feel between rider and machine one that could truly be called, the ultimate trail bike'. Stiffness is what it all boils down to, the ability for the frame to communicate every bump and imbalance from your feet and hands to brain all while maintaining stability. To achieve super stiffness, we started working on the layout, shapes and materials of the frame.

Using Finite Element Analysis alongside our own mountain-specific stiffness test, we looked at the layout of the frame to identify where the biggest improvements regarding stiffness could be made. Turns out there was a lot more we could do, boosting the stiffness of our Large and X-Large frames to really get them singing.

Our Sidearm frame design is a new one for the Stumpy, helping to lock in the connection at the three key points on the frame that are of most vital importance. This reduces frame flex to a minimum, even when the rear suspension is called into action, so you can focus on ragging the bike through whatever the trail has in store. It has the nice added bonus of a rear end on the bike that's 100g lighter too.

Further exploring the possibilities for improvement, we focused on the suspension. We added our custom Rx Trail Tune to both rear shock and the fork, which helps us land the bike right in the centre of the spectrum of possible adjustment. That means you have the widest choice of tweaks and customisations to dial in the Stumpy to ride how you want it. The Rx Tune is even tweaked to reflect the specific needs of a 29er platform.

The new Stumpjumper frameset features a threaded bottom bracket for the first time in a while, with a standard metric shock added for enhanced usability. Clearance for 3.0 tyres, as well as a Flip Chip for adjusting the geometry of the frame itself, make this a bike that's made to be adjusted to your own exacting specifications. The mind-bending new SWAT box manages to be both more streamlined and more capacious, while the ribbed chain stay protector is there to eradicate chain slap once and for all.

The home mechanics among you will also be delighted to hear that our carbon frames now come with fully-routed internal tubes, so you simply have to push the cable in one end and keep pushing till it appears at the other end. No more fiddling about with poky spokes or magnets, hallelujah!
