Specialized Globe: the petrol buster

Do you remember the cryptic cactus-covered bike Instagram post from Specialized? A picture that got everyone guessing, it has since been revealed as Globe, Specialized’s new line of affordable electric utility bikes.

We will have a full specs breakdown in the future when our Concept Stores get their hands on the bike. But for now, here’s the story behind the range’s flagship model, the Globe Haul ST.

A greener world

The big news is that no, the vegetation is not part of the bike. Though the meaning of the earlier teaser still very much remains. This is a utility e-bike with enough power and range to enable us to leave our car dependency behind on everyday journeys and replace it with a greener alternative. What looks like a large battery and hub motor, will combine to make the Globe Haul ST a dependable bike. Giving you the reliability and power you need, for the commute, for short journeys around town, for the school run or the weekly shop. When it comes to cargo bikes, the possibilities are endless.

First impressions

From the released photos we get a much better understanding of what makes this bike so special. With the proportions of a smaller bike, the Globe Haul ST will certainly be safe and manoeuvrable in tight situations. In fact, the wheelbase is just 165 centimetres so expect plenty of flexibility. The bike will roll on wide 20-inch wheels with a hybrid tyre tread, which will make for a super comfortable ride across all kinds of terrain. Need a break from city traffic? This isn’t a problem with the adaptability of the Globe.

Cargo

As well as obscuring the bike, the cactuses highlighted the functionality of the Globe Haul ST. With several mounting locations on the bike, there is plenty of space to load the Globe with a variety of baskets and bags, especially those from our friends at Fjällräven. The rigid plastic Coolcave panniers really come into their own on the Globe. With a 20-litre capacity, these panniers are perfect for transporting everyday essentials, to the less ordinary items such as camping equipment or giant cactuses. They’re also super easy to clip on and off the Globe’s rack and the contents inside can be protected with the special Cave Lid Pack. You could even put a small furry friend in them for short trips. Additionally, the design of the Haul ST free’s up more carrying space. The low, step-through frame means you also can stow a bag in front of you.

In the mode for Globe

Every great e-bike from Specialized needs the perfect helmet to complete the look and we can think of none better than the Mode range. Coming in dune white, matte black, matte CA white sage and matte white mountains colourways, the Mode adds a heap of function, practicality and style to your ride. Designed to fit on your head perfectly, the helmet also features integrated hidden vents that increases the air flow to reduce perspiration on those summer rides. Perfect for the city, ideal to pair with Globe.

Globe is rewriting what to means to have an electric-powered, city-fitness, commuting machine. Join the e-bike revolution and ditch the car for this two-wheeled alternative.
