Introducing the next evolution in bike wheel design, the Roval CLX 50 – Front from Specialized. Commanding the perfect blend of aerodynamic efficiency and lightweight design, this ""unicorn wheel"" aims to revolutionise your riding performance.
Inspired by our previous models, the CLX 50 borrows weight-saving techniques from the CLX 32 while incorporating aerodynamic guidance deriving from the CLX 64. Our primary focus was to create a wheel that was aerodynamically optimised, ultra-wide, and besides, weighed under 1400 grams. The result? A wheel that is 48 to 54mm deep, presenting the ultimate balance of weight and aerodynamics.
Our development process relied heavily on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), utilizing computer modeling to create the most efficient rim shapes and design. Cross-referencing data from potential design candidates, we tested these using CNC machined rims in our renowned Win Tunnel. The eventual victorious rim shape not only satisfied our weight targets but also fortuitously fulfilled our aerodynamic dreams.
Understanding the vital role of tyres in riding comfort and efficiency, we designed our rims to complement a modern-width tyre. Lower tyre pressure and a perfect rim width pair-up translates to increased comfort, less rolling resistance, and supreme aerodynamic efficiency.
As for final assembly, we laced the rims using 16 DT Swiss Aerolite spokes to our Aero Flange (AF) hub, equipped with legendary CeramicSpeed bearings. The end-product? A 50mm-deep, 1375-gram clincher wheelset with lighter weight and enhanced speed in comparison to its counterparts, resulting in an improved riding experience that's noticeably different to each wheel in its class.
