Turbo MTBs for winter shredding

Were you inspired by multiple road world champion Peter Sagan switching codes and racing the recent e-MTB World Championships in Les Gets? If so, this winter is the perfect chance to replicate the Slovak and benefit from the ride-boosting power that is Specialized’s e-MTB range.

You, only faster, the range gives every rider the power to conquer bigger trails and ride further, faster and harder than they previously felt was possible. Enhance your ride and make the most out of those cold, wet winter mornings – instead of staying in bed dreading the thick, slowing mud, you can get on the saddle and glide over the trails, keeping your skills and fitness as honed as if you were riding in summer. Here are the Specialized models that lead the way in the category.

Turbo Levo

The exact bike that Sagan raced in France was in fact the metallic white silver/chrome/dream silver S-Works Turbo Levo which you can get as a whole bike or frameset only in a blue ghost gravity fade/black/light silver colourway. A bike that delivers a combination of ride quality, comfort, usable power and range, the Turbo Levo is the real deal for winter trail exploring and adventures.

The 2.2 motor and MasterMind Turbo Control Unit provide up to 4x amplification and extend duration to five hours of ride time. 150mm of custom-tuned rear suspension give a natural feel to your ride and Sagan’s model is fitted with nothing but the best of SRAM’s premier Eagle AXS XX1 drivetrain, FOX Factory suspension and the super light but tough ultra-performance Roval Traverse SL wheelset.

Kenevo

If downhill is more your speed, you’ll be delighted to hear that with the Kenevo you don’t even need an uplift when you’re shredding in the winter. With the power to conquer climbs as well as the shuttle cart, the Turbo Kenevo is a super capable e-MTB with a staggering 180mm of suspension configured around an out-performing combination of chassis and components.

As capable going up as down, the Kenevo blazes through the roughest terrain thanks to rearward axle path that reduces wheel spin on tricky ground resulting in more momentum, control and speed. This is particularly useful in the winter months when you encounter the harshest trail conditions.

The latest Kenevo also has some weight-shedding measures applied including a full kilogram taken off the frame weight to help with stiffness and handling. Frame flex is also minimised thanks to the Sidearms frame that connects all three mounting points of the rear end and shock to the frame. With less weight comes more power via the 2.1 motor that amplifies input up to 410% without annoying surges. Battery capacity has also been increased by 40% and this results in a more centred, confident, durable bike perfect for winter gravity riding.

Complete the look

Top off your MTB style with one of our MIPs with ANGi ready helmets. There’s the Gambit that redefines your comfort zone, its downhill-certified full-face design providing ample ventilation in a performance-oriented helmet. If you’re after something a bit more versatile, the Ambush 2 and Camber ranges are more traditional MTB helmets and are perfect for the everyday trail hunter.

Shoes for the winter

As well as the bike and helmet, the importance of comfortable, warm, solid bike shoes for winter cannot be overlooked. As ever, Specialized has you covered in that department. Durability is guaranteed every time you step out of the door whether you choose the more race-focused S-Works EXOS EVOs, providing all-round performance, and the Recon range which offers off-bike as well as on-bike efficiency.

All-day adventure

One of the great advantages of turbo powered mountain biking is that it broadens your horizons. If all-day riding seemed a little too daunting of a prospect before, the boost of a motor will really help to cut the nerves and extend your MTB rides, thanks in part to SL motor’s range extender battery. You can then benefit from the Specialized – Fjällräven ‘great nearby’ partnership and kit your bike out with the various luggage solutions which can carry tools, snacks and clothes on your long rides.
