"Went in there again recently, and the guy in there (older, balding) has not changed his strange ways. Here is my original post; So.... I need new pedals. I know, I'll go to Specialized store, I bought the bike from there and have had a few things done since then. I go into shop. I choose DMR V8 pedals, £38. I have them fitted. I get home, and check reviews for that pedal out of curiosity. I notice Evans AND Halfords are doing the same pedal for £19.49!!!! (fitted free), AND the RRP is £28!!! I call shop to ask if they can price match Evans' (had a similar episode with John Lewis and they honour it if within 30 days of purchase). "No, not at that price, that's half price." "It's like buying an orange at Tesco's and then finding them cheaper at Sainsbury's." "That's the reason Evans are shutting their stores, because they're not making enough money. Selling stuff off at those prices it's no wonder they are shutting stores." "I can't tell Evans what to do, that's up to them, they won't be in business much longer anyway." Well what about Halfords then? They are selling it at that price too. I ask if I can return them, "no because they've been fitted to the bike". Long story short, he offers a price of £28. Cutting my losses I return to shop to get £10 back. There is a problem with the credit card machine not refunding me. "You'll have to call your bank" Half hour call to my bank later, bank cannot help. After more phone calls etc. by salesperson in store, turns out to be a problem not to do with my bank or credit card. Finally get £10 back in cash, (I turned around and he was holding it out for me to take) which should have been done at first sign of problem with refund, would have saved me an hour! waiting around in the shop and on phone to my bank. Used up 3 hours of my day off in total!!!!! How can you be selling something for £38 when the recommended retail price is £28? And then not honour a price match. I was told; "It says on our website we will endeavour to price match, doesn't mean we have to." Wow. Extremely disgruntled loyal customer!!! In response to your reply: "We spent a fair amount of time going through the various options"... (about 2 or 3 minutes). "We agreed to fit them free of charge as part of the service" (like everyone else does). "We were unaware that there was a new RRP for these as we were not told by the supplier" (poor... your 2 main competitors in the area were aware). "We obviously can't refund a product in full when they are in a used condition". What, like attached to the bike 30 minutes ago and had trainers resting on them for 15 minutes on a dry sunny day? "Other stores discounting is a problem we have in the retail industry and we try to find the best balance for all of our customers". Like charging twice as much as your 2 main competitors in the area and reducing it to 45% more after the customer notices? The whole Visa/MasterCard problem ended up nothing to do with my bank and I spent about an hour in your shop and on the phone to my bank waiting for you to just make it easier and give me a tenner back in cash. Yes, you have tried to contact me a couple of times but I have no confidence I will be satisfied with the experience or outcome of any contact, judging by my experience in the shop, on the phone, and now your reply here."

"Excellent bike shop, super friendly knowledgeable staff. Swapped the cassette and rotors for me on some wheels for free as a returning customer. Highly recommended"

"Ian was very helpful in dealing with a few questions I had about a bike I hadn't actually bought from the shop - most other shops definitely haven't done this from my 20+ years experience riding bikes. When my bike next needs a service (or replacement - hopefully not for a while!) I will definitely be coming here now instead of my usual place."

"Unbelievable service from the guys here! Needed a quick turnaround on rear wheel after a puncture. These chaps had me sorted with a tubeless setup before I could even finish a coffee. Would definitely recommend!"

"I went to get my sit bones measured for a new saddle. Harry was extremely helpful and very professional. The machine used only took a few minutes and was much more accurate than me attempting to do this at home. Thanks to Harry I now have a new very comfortable saddle with a very kind gesture of 10% off too. I highly recommend this store and will be returning for future purchases."

"The staff in Chelmsford branch are always helpful, professional, knowledgeable, kind, polite and don't hurry you when discussing a new steed or just general enquiries. Luke, Ian and Harry make you feel welcome and always willing to answers questions on the phone and email. Yesterday as arranged the same morning by email I returned one of our new bikes to the Colchester store. After 10 miles cycling a grinding sound coming from the chain. ( it was the rear hub) On walking in to the store my wife and I weren't greeted by any of the three men. There were not any other customers in the shop. I have received more of a welcome walking into a greasy spoon cafe. After being told that we'd have to wait for an hour ( it was arranged that we would take it in any time that day). Nick said he would do us a favour and find a fitter who looked at the problem and we were told the bike would have to go back to manufacturers to be repaired. We looked in silence at our new bike. We weren't offered an apology, a new bike or a refund! On visiting Chelmsford this morning after a phone call, Harry sorted the problem out immediately and offered us a new bike to replace the faulty one. We felt very welcome in the store. Why didn't Colchester offer such assistance and make us feel at ease, even happy with the experience of buying two lovely new ebikes!? It is baffling and sad."

"I visited the Chelmsford store for saddle help, I have spent many years riding with saddle pain and never found a solution. One visit to the Chelmsford store later and I finally have a saddle that doesn’t cause any pain at all which is quite revolutionary! Absolutely great team, special thanks to Rob for all of his help. Rob really took the time to listen to my concerns and recommend saddles based on my issues and my riding style. I wholeheartedly recommend a visit here for any of your bike needs."
